Bejuco Spiced Rum - Original Naming and Story

The story: Mamajuana is made from a specific blend of different ingredients. One of which is Bejuco. While this key ingredient is found throughout the Dominican Republic, the one we use is richer, warmer and infuses this rum with its unique flavor. Perhaps this is because we insist on a very rare type of Bejuco. One only capable of surviving at altitudes above 10,000 feet in the Pico Duarte Mountains. Twice per year, men make the long, grueling trek to a very small, very specific location where our Bejuco grows. Only then is it placed in wicker baskets called Gabións created to transport this delicate ingredient down the mountain. And ultimately, into the bottle you presently hold in your hand.
